How to use the Billings Ovulation Method™ to monitor reproductive health Print E-mail

girls-having-coffee_350If a woman has a basic understanding of the events of the normal ovulatory cycle and keeps a daily record of the sensations felt at the vulva and any discharge seen coming from the vagina, she will have an accurate means of monitoring her reproductive health, in addition to having the necessary information to naturally regulate her fertility.

When you come for instruction in the Billings Ovulation Method™, whether you make an appointment to see a tutor at one of our teaching centres, ring for telephone counselling, or sign up for our internet instruction, this is the information you will be given – information that every woman should have.

The chart you will learn to keep will be an accurate record of the hormonal events of the cycle.   You will not only gain the confidence to naturally regulate your fertility, but will also recognise the good health of your reproductive system by the fact that all these events follow one another in a regular, orderly pattern.

If at some time in the future the pattern is disturbed and you are unable to account for the changes, you will know to seek prompt assistance.  You should first contact your Billings Ovulation Method™ tutor who may be able to explain the disruption to the normal pattern and if not, you will be advised to seek medical investigation.

Teenagers and Regular Cycles
When a young woman begins her menstrual bleeds it is normal for her to have irregular cycles for a few months.  However if she is not  experiencing regular cycles - in the range of 21 to 35 days - within two years she should see her doctor.  The Pill may give her "regular bleeds", however, this is only masking the symptoms, not treating the cause.  Irregularity is usually a sign of hormal imbalance, which if not treated can have serious implications for her future health and well being.
